In Honor of Transgender Day of Visibility

Dear Chaffey Community,
Monday, March 31 is International Transgender Day of Visibility 鈥� a day dedicated to celebrating the lives and contributions of transgender citizens and to raise awareness of support needed within our communities.
At 51萝莉 we see and value our trans students and colleagues as integral members of our community. Trans persons are health care professionals, educators, business owners, political leaders, caretakers, and parents who are woven into the fabric of our society.
As we strive to make 51萝莉 a place where all who walk through our doors feel a true sense of belonging and safety, we recognize that more work remains to support and uplift our trans students and colleagues.
This commitment is especially critical at a time when the trans community 鈥� especially our trans youth 鈥� face increasing vilification by political leaders and the threat of eroding fundamental rights. Nonprofit leaders and case workers in California are reporting alarming rises in anxiety, depression, self-harm and even suicidal ideation among trans youth who are fearful for their lives and their futures.
This is our current reality. But we must not be complacent. When it seems like progress
has taken two steps back, it is our duty as a campus community to step forward, stand
in solidarity, and learn how we can do more.
In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility, PRISM will host a special film screening
and discussion led by Professor Ian Baldwin on April 2, 2025 from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in PRISM (AD 191). All are welcome.
