51ÂÜÀò stands with LGBTQIA+ community

February 12, 2025

Dear Chaffey Community,

We believe that at 51ÂÜÀò providing a quality educational experience and a welcoming campus community for all students goes hand in hand. Part of this effort requires us to reaffirm our commitment to supporting some of our most vulnerable members of our community.

Now more than ever, it is important to make clear that 51ÂÜÀò is and will remain a college that welcomes and supports all members of the LGBTQIA+ community.  Whether you are someone who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual or maybe you are questioning, know that 51ÂÜÀò is your college and that you belong here.

We know and have heard that there is a heightened sense of uncertainty, fear and anxiety among our own students, faculty and staff during this time as news reports continue to surface regarding attacks on LGBTQIA+ rights in our country.

While we cannot control all that happens outside Chaffey’s campus, we can and will continue to do our best to provide our LGBTQIA+ community with support, resources, programs and a safe campus environment.

We also know that it takes more than just words to affirm 51ÂÜÀò’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where LGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff can thrive.  It requires intentional listening, strategic planning and ultimately action.

Our leadership team is committed to this work and to creating more opportunities for engagement, advocacy and support.

If you have not had an opportunity to attend one of our last two campus LGBTQIA+ Listening Sessions, we encourage you to attend future sessions as they are announced to learn how you can be supported, share ideas and engage in meaningful dialogue.

In addition, the following LGBTQIA+ campus and community resources continue to be available:

Thank you for being part of our community and for your allyship. Together we can continue to create a campus environment that embraces and celebrates the diversity among us.

Sincerely,

Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
